OUR MISSION

To raise awareness and funds in our local community for children living in often very challenging circumstances in Africa. We aim to do this by partnering with organizations on the ground that work to change lives through education and sport.

Who We Are

  • The idea of brothers4Africa evolved out of a discussion we had as a family one night about the importance of remaining connected and true to our African roots. As brothers we decided we needed to do more to remain genuinely connected in meaningful ways to the African continent. We decided we would focus on two areas – education and sport.
Over the past four years we have partnered with three non-profit organizations in three different regions in Africa, each one specifically focused on supporting and serving children and their families, and we hope that you will feel similarly inspired to become involved and support these initiatives either through a donation or working with us to support them in other ways.
  • Education because we believe it is one of the most effective ways to break the cycle of poverty and as a basic human right it is one of the first building blocks to a more equitable and prosperous world.
  • Sport because of our own passion for our respective sports – tennis and basketball – and because we know it provides children with stability and joy, develops resilience and helps children to manage stress and build a sense of normalcy in difficult circumstances.

Meet Our Team

David L. – Co- Founder, Brothers4Africa

“Over the last six years I have immersed myself in the world of tennis. Countless hours a week spent training and competing on the court have molded me into who I am today and taught me life lessons I will never forget. I learned how to compete fairly and with respect and integrity while giving unreserved effort in my pursuits. Within court lines I have experienced enough happiness and excitement for a lifetime, and I am eternally grateful for what the sport has given me” David

William L. – Co-Founder, Brothers4Africa

“Playing basketball from a young age has taught me many valuable lessons that extend past the confines of a court; you get out what you put in, facing adversity is part of the process, embrace the hard moments, and most importantly, trust and rely on your teammates. This year my varsity basketball team fostered a community of teammates that were incredibly supportive, driven, and enthusiastic. As the season progressed and the connections strengthened, we were no longer players on a team but members of a family. I am forever grateful for the people that I’ve met, experiences that I’ve had, and the community I am a part of through basketball”

Our mission is simple

We are committed to raising awareness and funds in our local community for children living in often very challenging circumstances in Africa.

We are committed to raising awareness and funds in our local community for children living in often very challenging circumstances in Africa.

We partner with organizations on the ground in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ghana, South Africa and Zimbabwe that work to change lives through education and sports.

We help raise awareness and shine a light on the work our partners are doing on the ground by speaking to schools and clubs in our community about supporting these initiatives.

We help raise capital in the US to fund important projects on the ground.

Where possible work directly with our partners to sponsor a coach/team member to visit the US and work with local organizations in our community.

Good Sheperd International Foundation

“The digital age in the US is powered by copper/cobalt minerals that are used in all modern technologies. Seventy percent of the world’s cobalt is derived from mines in the DRC and tragically children as young as five are forced to mine these toxic minerals for as little as $1/day. We watched youtube videos detailing the circumstances families were forced to endure in the DRC on the mines, and felt strongly that we needed to get involved.
The Good Shepherd International Foundation is a non-profit organization that is committed to breaking the cycle of abuse and violence against children, women and girls and to eradicate child labor in cobalt mining, promoting and protecting children’s rights in the DRC. By building a school in Kolwezi, DRC the GSIF have been able to ensure that children most in need have a chance at getting an education and eating at least once a day. By teaching families the skills necessary to create alternatives livlihoods, GSIF is also helping families create an alternative future – away from the mines – for themselves.
The work being done on the ground in the DRC over the past decade is so inspiring and we are grateful that we have been able to work with GSIF to help raise funds and awareness of this important humanitarian crisis.”

The Michael Nortey Foundation

“Along my tennis journey, I have had the privilege to train with former Ghanian professional tennis player, Michael Nortey. We have since partnered with The Michael Nortey Foundation and the fantastic work they have done to support junior tennis development in Accra, Ghana has provided me with an opportunity to share my love of tennis with children across the world. I know the Foundation’s work will enable children in Ghana to find their unique joy in tennis and equip them with the tools necessary to be successful in their other life pursuits. I feel excited to share our work with all of you and ask that you consider supporting us in bringing more tennis to Ghana”

“Basketball has brought me an immeasurable amount of happiness and something I believe that everyone in the world should have the opportunity to experience. This is why I am excited to have partnered with Hoops4Hope, a non-profit organization that uses basketball as a means to provide young people living in Southern Africa with the opportunities necessary to be happy, healthy, and safe both emotionally and physically.”
